United FC Makes History in ADNOC Pro League Debut

United FC opened a new chapter in the club’s history on Saturday, 15 August, making its first-ever appearance in the ADNOC Pro League against Al Wasl at Zabeel Stadium.

Despite conceding in the opening minutes, Andrea Pirlo’s side responded with confidence and character. In the 17th minute, Adeel Alchadli completed a well-constructed attacking move to score United FC’s first goal in the history of the UAE’s top division.

The landmark goal was created by a strong individual run down the left before the ball was delivered across the penalty area for Alchadli to finish. United continued to compete with one of the league’s strongest teams and remained fully involved in the contest until the closing stages.

Beyond the historic goal, the match provided the team with valuable experience at the highest level of UAE football. The players showed that they are capable of following the club’s playing philosophy, responding under pressure and creating opportunities against established Pro League opposition.

Speaking after the match, head coach Andrea Pirlo acknowledged that the team needed to manage key moments more effectively.

“After the second goal, we did not show the reaction we needed,” Pirlo said. He added that United should have remained composed and stayed in the game longer, while emphasising that the team must learn how to manage matches over the full 90 minutes.

Pirlo also refused to use injuries or absences as an excuse and reiterated his confidence in the current squad. The coaching staff will now analyse the opening fixture and use its lessons as the team continues adapting to the demands of the ADNOC Pro League.

The evening at Zabeel Stadium will remain a significant milestone for United FC: the club’s first match in the competition and its first historic goal at the highest level of UAE football.
