Dubai United Fall 2–1 to Shabab Al Ahli in ADIB Cup Clash
Information
Dubai United suffered a narrow 2–1 defeat against Shabab Al Ahli at Rashid Stadium on Thursday evening in Matchday 3 of the Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB) Cup, despite producing a competitive performance and creating several goalscoring opportunities against strong opposition.
The hosts made an early breakthrough through Mohammed Jumaa Al mansori in the seventh minute before Breno doubled Shabab Al Ahli's advantage in the 68th minute.
Despite falling two goals behind, Dubai United continued to push forward in search of a comeback, maintaining their attacking ambition and creating opportunities in the final stages.
Their persistence was rewarded in the 88th minute when Al-Mahdi Maouhoub pulled a goal back, setting up a tense finish. However, the visitors were unable to find an equaliser before the final whistle.
Throughout the encounter, Dubai United demonstrated determination and attacking intent, looking to impose their style of play against one of the competition's strongest opponents.
Pirlo: “I Am Very Proud of My Players”
Speaking after the match, Dubai United head coach Andrea Pirlo praised his players' commitment, performance and determination despite the disappointing result.
“It is difficult to speak about the game, but I have to congratulate my players. I am very proud of my team because it is not easy to come here, to Shabab Al Ahli's stadium, dominate the game and create so many chances to score,” Pirlo said.
The Italian coach highlighted the positive aspects of his side's performance, particularly their ability to compete against high-quality opposition away from home.
“We played a good game against a great team. I am happy with what my players did. We dominated periods of the game and had many chances,” he added.
Looking ahead, Pirlo emphasised the importance of shifting focus to the team's upcoming fixtures.
“Now we have to prepare for the next game,” he concluded.
Dubai United will now turn their attention to their forthcoming commitments, aiming to build on the positives from their performance and improve their efficiency in front of goal.
