United FC Claims First Victory of the Season in President’s Cup Opener
United FC secured their first win of the 2024/2025 season with a commanding 2-0 victory over Gulf United FC in their President’s Cup opener at ISD Stadium Pitch. It was a significant win for the team, as they showed both quality and resilience in front of their home crowd, marking a confident start to their cup campaign.
From the opening whistle, United FC displayed great energy and determination, applying constant pressure on Gulf United FC. The breakthrough came in the 28th minute when Chelo Torres delivered a precise cross into the box, finding Makha Sissokho, who rose above the defenders and headed the ball into the net, putting United FC 1-0 ahead. The team’s persistence paid off, with Chelo and Makha combining well to unlock the Gulf United defense.
However, the game’s tempo shifted dramatically in the 40th minute when United FC’s Mohammad Yousuf was shown a red card, leaving the team to play with 10 men for the remainder of the match. Despite this setback, United FC continued to push forward.
Just before the halftime whistle, in the dying moments of the first half, Makha Sissokho made another crucial contribution. He was tackled by Gulf United’s goalkeeper inside the box, earning United FC a penalty. Chelo Torres stepped up to the spot and confidently slotted the ball into the back of the net, doubling the lead and giving United FC a vital two-goal advantage going into the break.
The second half saw United FC shift their focus to maintaining their lead while still creating chances on the counterattack. Playing with a man down for over 50 minutes, United FC displayed remarkable discipline and teamwork. The defense stood firm, and goalkeeper Ali Saeed made key saves when called upon, ensuring that Gulf United couldn’t find a way back into the game.
The match ended with a 2-0 scoreline, giving United FC a well-deserved victory in their first competitive win of the season.
United FC will now prepare for their next match in the President’s Cup against Al Dhafra on the 27th of September at Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Stadium. Kick-off is at 17:25. The team will be eager to build on their winning momentum and continue their journey in the cup.
