Pirlo Calls for Greater Focus and Improvement Following Defeat to Al Dhafra
Information
Dubai United suffered a 5–1 defeat away to Al Dhafra in Matchweek 6 of the ADNOC Pro League, following a challenging encounter in which defensive errors proved costly despite the team's efforts to remain competitive.
Al Dhafra opened the scoring in the 33rd minute through D. Mendy from the penalty spot, before Willy Semedo brought Dubai United level with a penalty in the 40th minute.
However, the hosts quickly regained their advantage through S. Kaba in the 41st minute, with the same player adding a third shortly after the restart in the 48th minute. D. Koumare extended Al Dhafra's lead in the 68th minute, before Arielson completed the scoring in stoppage time.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Dubai United head coach Andrea Pirlo expressed his disappointment with the result and his team's performance, stressing the urgent need to address defensive weaknesses and eliminate costly mistakes.
Pirlo acknowledged that his side had been fully aware of Al Dhafra's tactical approach, particularly their defensive organisation and reliance on counterattacks. However, he admitted that Dubai United failed to manage these situations effectively, allowing their opponents to capitalise on defensive gaps.
The Italian coach emphasised the importance of maintaining concentration, discipline and a collective sense of responsibility throughout the match.
Pirlo also highlighted the need for humility and a realistic assessment of the team's capabilities, noting that the transition from the First Division last season to the ADNOC Pro League presents significantly greater challenges and demands a higher level of mental and tactical readiness.
Looking ahead, the Dubai United head coach underlined the importance of learning from the defeat, correcting mistakes and restoring the team's focus.
He warned that repeating such performances would make it increasingly difficult to secure positive results and could negatively affect the club's position in the league standings.
Dubai United will now turn their attention to the upcoming fixtures, determined to respond positively, regain their competitive balance and deliver improved performances as they look to climb the ADNOC Pro League table.
